The following was taken from the Commonwealth Wargraves Report

Killed in Action 7 Jul 1918 age 30. son of Peter Stratton; husband of Margaret M Stratton of Larch House, High Street, Yarm-on-Tees, Yorks. native of Deniliquin, New South Wales.

Yarm1914 research believe that the 20th Battalion was raised at Liverpool, South West of Sydney, in early 1915, to form the fourth Battalion of the 5th Brigade in the 2nd Division and its soldiers were drawn from NSW.George signed up on 3 August 1915 and indcated that his sister Mrs F Holdern lived in Napier Street, Deniliquin. He married Margaret Muriel Hickman in Barnet, London in 1917 where she lived with her parents and twin sister. Margaret was born on 5 January 1895 and had two brothers Albert William and Francis Henry who married in 1911 and 1915 respectively. Francis was a shop assistant at the time of her marriage. What George was doing in London and when Margaret moved to Yarm is not clear from the records. His attestation paper indicated that he was 30 in 1915. Margaret did not appear to remarry and died in Darlington in 1978 aged 83.
